Synchronizing with Windows Mobile 5 and 6 made easy in Mandriva Linux 2008 Spring

Posted in Mandriva at 11:00 pm by Adam

The upcoming Mandriva Linux 2008 Spring release will boast the easiest ever support for synchronizing with Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices in any distribution. The adventurous can already try out the support in the current 2008 Spring pre-release repositories, by following the instructions here. Mandriva has uploaded a video demonstrating how easy it is to synchronize with a Windows Mobile 6 device right out of the box with Mandriva Linux 2008 Spring. Support is included for synchronizing with both KDE (KDE PIM) and GNOME (Evolution). Similarly easy synchronization is also possible with many Nokia phones and with Blackberry devices.

    Hi Adam

Does the problem still exist where you risk loosing data that was on your device before the partership was created?

If so, you may wish to warn about this, if not, i’ll try syncing tonight!

    Yeah ! Good news !
I have a PDA/Phone LG that works with Windows Mobile and I was sad because I couldn’t synchronise it with KOrganiser.
Now it will be possible ! Thank you Mandriva !

Adam Pigg: actually, I got that wrong. I tested and data that exists before you create a partnership is sync’ed fine. I think the issue is that data *associated with another partnership* can be lost; it seems like Windows Mobile associates data with the first partnership to use it, and if you subsequently create a new partnership, that data can get lost. But if you haven’t created any partnership before and you then create one, all existing data will be synced correctly using that partnership. So you should be okay.
