The decision that should have been taken today has been postponed to Friday, January 27th. The deadline for the decision on the proposal has been extended by the proposing entity upon request of some shareholders.

Such delay is troubling to people q Mandriva bought for personal or business use. Anyway I hope and wish that on Friday 27, the news is excellent. Of course, Mandriva community, we look forward to good results and Mandriva can exit from its financial crisis prosecuted in the path of progress and show the world that there is Mandriva for a while.

I am really hoping and praying for the continuance of Mandriva Linux in it’s present form and direction. I have used Mandrake/Mandriva since buying Mandrake 7.0 in the box. Despite the inevitable bumps and turns along the road, Mandriva has always been the right choice for me. Other major distros just feel flat compared to Mandriva.

Espero que mandriva este por siempre es la mejor distribución de Linux que existe, hay mucho por hacer y la comunidad debe tambien apoyarlos, amigos que usamos la distribución libre compremos mandriva y mandriva retribuyanos con mejoras tantas mejoras que opaquemos a ubuntu.
I don’t know how it’s possible that Mandriva got to this point. I think just its brand-name is worth more than 50 millions. The French police changed 90.000 desktop to Linux, the Munich Council 15000, the Extremadura governement announced just 2 days ago that they will move 40.000 computers to Debian Linux (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Spain-s-Extremadura-Moves-40-000-PCs-to-Linux-248394.shtml). Free desktops are just starting to explode. LibreOffice is maturing and GNU/Linux is much more friendly than Windows when playing with the mobile guys (I mean Linux-Android and the newcomer Samsung-Intel Linux-Tizen).
Read the history of Mandrakesoft/Mandriva over the past 10 years and your question is answered. Yes, there is business but there is also a competition which seems to achieve better results in the corporate market. I will not comment on the why and how, this is not the topic of this blog entry.

There have been various attempts in this area, starting as early as 2000. So far the idea did not come through (various reasons on both sides, company and community).
As I see it, the MDV community have already spoken, by forking the code and creating Mageia.
