Hooray! As promised earlier, we are happy to announce that Mandriva 2011 is out. You can download ISO images from here.
When downloading an iso-image, perhaps you will want to read the Release Notes.
We prepared a small manual of how to upgrade to the new release for users of the Mandriva Desktop 2010.2.
If you have never tried Mandriva, take a look at the Mandriva 2011 Tour.

I didn´t understand how to switch keyboard language
I’ve found that it’s possible only through widget,
in system settings it’s hidden, why?
Sorry, I just come with good things
and i’m a little bit surprise with the discussion (yes, i’m just read a few of it) that give me the impression that mandriva 2011 is disappointing.
In my little netbook it work very good, i’m very satified and come here to say a lot of thanks for the team. yes, 2011 is different with the 2010, but the changes make it better for me.
One things that not nice for me is: the icon in rosa launcher is to big! how can i make it smaller?
thanks alot mandriva and GBU All

slowly they kill mandiva…
Slowly???
So exactly why is is that Mandriva (and Ubuntu, and etc) think we all want to learn a new window dressing. Why does anyone want a 1600×1200 computer screen to resemble a cell phone screen? One of the advantage of linux was the different variations of treatments one could try, and choose what made sense. (KDE, Gnome, WindowMaker, etc, etc.) Now we have a new one jammed down our throats? Or have I missed something and I can turn this screen off? Sounds like what MS does with each new version….

Funny, they deleted all the comments, of course they were all negative lol
It’s like if this release wasn’t made by the mandriva team but by someone else…
May be they fiered some pepole of the team… the wrong ones obiouvsly lol
They did not delete the comments. You can still find them if you click on the link “Older comments” under “Responses to Mandriva 2011 “Hydrogen” is out!”. Anyway, what I consider strange is that there were some news until the final release came out. But since that moment Mandriva keeps complete silence. Maybe because there will not be any news any more? Instead of telling something useful Denis Koryavov just happily announced in his blog that there are some new wallpapers for Mandriva 2011 available (http://koryavov.net/post/10122788881/some-new-wallpapers-for-mandriva-desktop-2011-by-mib). Although it is nice to see that at least some people care for Mandriva I doubt that these new eye-candies will neither hide all the shortcomings of the actual release nor solve any of its problems. I am convinced that there are more urgent problems than just a new and fresh look for this distribution. In my opinion money was never a problem for Mandriva it was – and obviously is! – the lack of communication.
I hope they will restore their reputation with a 2011.1 and a 2011.1 powerpack
Totally agree !!
^^ exactly lol the fact they deleted the comments is sad too
What to say? As mentioned before the old comments are still there. But not finding / using the provided link to those comments is a good argument for Mandriva/Rosa to reduce functionality. Why to offer unused options or features if they are not used – not even by advanced users?
k , old comments are available but they been hidden not after a full page of comments, there was 3 comments when i saw it
I have some problems with the instal.
I put the dvd in. i chose to install but i`ve got this> localhost.localdomain login: _
anyway, the new “start menu” and “task bar” and that full screen menu, it’s all shit for ubuntu retarded.
Mandriva is for pro users, and beginners maybe, but no for retards!
I have used Mandrake 9.0, Mandriva 2007 spring, Red hat 6.0/7.0, Red hat Fedora 12, Ubuntu 11.04.
Now i m using Mandriva 2011. From my experience, Superb distribution! Great for Pro Linux Lovers
Well, for beginners and people who just love to play a bit it might be a good distribution. But it is for sure not a distribution for an productive environment. I do not want to repeat all previous comments, but here are two more points:
Dolphin has been completely castrated: no cut/copy/paste option (not even with hot-keys), no “copy to” and “move to” options in the mouse menu. A file manager without possibilities to manage files is pretty useless. But I agree, the menu looks simpler now…
A completely open firewall and per default a root account without password. This interpretation of “open source” really goes to far…
My Dolphin appears to have cut/copy/paste options (that work) ?
I tried to use a fresh Mandriva 2011 installation without any further configuration. Actually, you are right: cut/copy/paste and “copy to”/”move to” exist. These options can be enabled in the configuration dialog. I found it later when I tried to adapt Mandriva to my needs.
The second thing I mentioned is strange. During installation I entered a root password. When I logged in as a different user I could not copy a file from anywhere to /etc/sysconf/*. So, I entered “su” in a terminal – and I switched to root account without being asked for the password. But now I had complete read/write access to /etc/sysconf/*.
Anyway, I think Mandriva 2011 still is a good distribution. But since nobody of the Mandriva officials tells us about their plans I am afraid that they will remove more and more established functionality. Like slow degeneration. I like new inventions – as long as “the traditional way” is also available. The users should still have a choice instead of being forced to use Mandriva only in one way.
My biggest wish and hope is that the announced “Mandriva 2011 LTS” will be some kind of PowerPack with three years of support.
i had some problems with the version, using in a virtual machine, i could not enable 3d effects, problems with frozen screen.
when the “x” lods, the login screen, it always back to the login screen with any user selected, including the SU..
i dont know how to proceed to solve these problems
sorry i mean “load” when i mentioned the graphic interface start

I never thought I’d say this as I’ve been sold on Mandriva since 7.1. If nothing else changes, 2011 is probably going to mark my departure from the distribution. This is hugely disappointing as I have grown to appreciate the added value of the Mandriva tools… so much so that I also have used Corporate Server 3, Corporate Server 4, and Enterprise Server 5.x at work on several servers I run there. 2010.x had to be the best I’ve seen yet. The new LXDE option was one of the most significantly appreciated changes as many of my systems are older. So sad to have no install time options whatsoever. 2011 is a 1.6 GB iso. 2010.2 fills a DVD. There is not even a 2011 PowerPack. I guess I’ll go down load 2010.2 and start thinking about what to use next when security updates stop coming down the pipe. I had the 2011 desktop. It’s shiny. I guess its trying to be Windows 7… changing things for the sake of changing them when the old stuff just works and people already know how to use it.
I have been a Mandriva user since Mandrake 7.0, now there was a distro, I still am but have taken the other fork & had a look at Magiea.
As a result of comparing the two I have come to prefer the latter which for me seems truer to its Mandrake roots.

Just do me a favor and keep writing such tercnhnat analyses, OK?
look, this is all I’m going to say, if you don’t like 2011, just go back to 2010, I’m glad I read all these, I use 2010.0, don’t like 2010.2, too many problems in it but who cares, just go back one, they”ll never get better than 2010, once it’s updated it’s perfect so, who needs anything else, I ran Mandriva sinse 2004 when it was Mandrake and now I feel it will never get any betteranyhow, not for me anyway, I’m 53 years old, don’t need anything any better, I have widows 7 also, I’m not going to widows 8, why, I only use it when I have to, but I love Madriva 2010!!
