..and waiting to be released in the coming hours!
as promised some weeks ago, we told you that Mandriva 2011 RC1 should be expected this week. The images are built and are undergoing an internal testing right now, and unless any critical issues are discovered, they will be pushed to the mirrors in the coming hours!
Those additional testings for RC1 images before their release to the mirrors was intended in order to certify that the final changes for the RC-stage of Mandriva 2011 release, containing the (almost) final UI and Desktop experience, do not result in any unexpected issues. The ones following us on cooker and changelog mailing lists have noticed that there was a huge number of changes between Mandriva 2011 beta3 and RC1, and we want to make sure that you will have the most adequate experience with this first release candidate.
To give you a preview of what to expect in Mandriva 2011 RC1, the following items (in no particular order) are worth of notice in this release:

So, hold your breath and in some hours you will be able to see it all for yourselves.

I’m looking forward to it.
Impressive number of changes. I wasn’t able to follow Beta2 and 3, but certainly looking forwards to trying-out RC1.
Yum yum… Will there be a CD? DVD size is a bit difficult to download. Hope the final at least will have CD.
It’s not a full DVD. At least beta 2 and 3 were about 1G.
Right, but also some really old computers have drives that cannot read dvds.
I tried beta 3 on a computer with 1G RAM. It took about 10 minutes to boot to the KDE desktop.
So those really old computers won’t work with KDE anyway. And KDE is the only officially supported DE starting from this release.
Only KDE? That’s worrying; having dumped KDE because of the ridiculous stuff it now insists on requiring (and also due to the fact they keep breaking important things like the address book), this may force me to drop Mandriva too. Which I really didn’t want to do.
i’m looking forward to trying out rc1, haven’t used mandriva since 2010 stages…looking forward to a great distro.
against all odds, it looks truly amazing
i love the some hours business
Where can we find the isos ?
I will definitely switch to Mandriva when 2011 comes out. Unity in this latest Ubuntu is just unusable, and KDE in Kubuntu is just not as good as in Mandriva.
Hi all, can someone tell me.. if i install RC1 and something isn’t right in the future, do i need to format and install the next RC (or Final version) or just get the upcoming updates in the system?
Will be wrong if i stay with this RC?
This format business is a Windows thing. Leave that. Mandriva will update it self. If you by any reason want to reinstall/format from scratch you can format all but your home partition /home while installing. Therefore you should always mount /home in its own partition. Easy. (This advise goes for normal users)
mandriva linux is the best OS in the market today
keep the good job
How about shoving it on over the DAMN THRESHOLD OF THAT DOOR. DAMN ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLD YOUR OWN BREATH FOR ABOUT A WEEK.
Will be the final version with Thunderbird 5?
Yes.
Wonderful to see the progress
Will there be a torrent?
Presumably @ http://torrent.mandriva.com/public/ ?
MANDRIVA, realmente a MAIOR e MELHOR distro existente, competente e inovadora, tudo tem um toque de excelencia. A organizacao Mandriva apos um problema ela resurge MELHOR. Parabens, realmente é um grande SO.
Look’s nice, but…
GPRS/Edge/3G modems doesn’t work. Mandriva Control Center doesn’t find device
Beaucoup de chose inutile à mon avis, restez simple et gardez le dvd avec une installation personnalisée minimaliste a nous de juger les applications qui nous instéressent, vlc, firefox, thunderbird et surtout GNOME.
Merci
bugs, bugs, bugs: (part 1):
kb3, nero don’t find cd/dvd recorder ( on my laptop lenowo t61)
