Hi all,
due to a huge number of big changes in Mandriva 2011 so far, combined with rpm5 migration both in the repositories and inside the build system, we have decided to shift the release dates for Mandriva 2011 by two weeks, to give us a better time period to fit the remaining pieces.
Therefore, the new release calendar for Mandriva 2011 will look like this:
- Mandriva 2011 Alpha: February 14 2011
- Mandriva 2011 Alpha 2: February 28 2011
- Mandriva 2011 Beta 1: March 14 2011
- Mandriva 2011 Beta 2: April 11 2011
- Mandriva 2011 RC: May 9 2011
- Mandriva 2011 Final: June 13 2011
However, as today’s date was promised to give you a preview on how Mandriva 2011 will look like, we have decided to prepare an additional release, calling it Mandriva 2011 Technology Preview, to show what is inside current Mandriva Cooker, and what will be available in Alpha. And this Technology Preview becomes available today
.
The Technology Preview showcases what will be inside the first Mandriva 2011 Alpha version. It already comes with rpm5, native systemd, networkmanager support, KDE 4.6.0, kernel 2.6.37, firefox 4b10, X.org server 1.9, clementine 0.6 and lots of updated packages everywhere.
Also, this Technology Preview shows a preview of the the new way we are thinking on how to run and install Mandriva Desktop. It will be possible to use the same Mandriva image to run it live, from either cdrom and flash drives (you can use the Addons/livecd-iso-to-disk script from it, contained within the iso), or install it, all from the same image. So we will have the “Mandriva Desktop” image which will supersede both Mandriva Free and Mandriva One.
Of course, it comes with some missing pieces yet:
- Networkmanager daemon is not started automatically on boot. In order to use it, run the ‘systemctl start networkmanager.service’ after boot.
- Artwork is not updated to the latest version.
- And there are still many many bugs to fix.
But if you want to see the current way of things in Mandriva Cooker, and see an rpm5 and native-systemd-powered version of Mandriva, keep an eye on your favorite mirror – the isos should appear there shortly.
–
Eugeni Dodonov

Hi all, good news!
I made torrents of both i586 and x86_64 flavors.
i586 -> http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2281263/Torrents/Mandriva%202011%20TP%20i586%20122.torrent
x86_64 -> http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2281263/Torrents/Mandriva%202011%20TP%20x86_64%20122.torrent
md5sum included.
Please seed!
Since Gnome is now up to the community — disappointing – time to find a different distro.
Yeah, heaven forbid that you rally around the distro you use and give back through the community…time to go run and have any hard work that faces you done by others so you don’t have to lift a finger.
Instead of looking at this as an opportunity, you’re looking at it as something bad. To me, I think you were looking for an excuse to leave anyway.
Thanks devnet

I’m loving the attention KDE is taking this time. No more Gnome, that’s cool, even Canonical is kind of droping it, hehe. I’m looking forward to see Mandrivanovich 2011 better looking, and quickier than openSuse!!! Go go go
Its nice to see KDE is not treated as “the other desktop” by all distros. Ubuntu started a bad trend, unfortunately, and a lie spoken a 1000 times became the truth (almost!)
Here are some excellent distros with KDE as the main DE, starting with Mandriva, of course:
Mandriva
PCLinuxOS
openSUSE
Chakra
Pardus
These distros don’t make you feel like you’re working in a cubicle the size of your chair with no elbow room … yeah, that’s exactly what GNOME feels to me
too limited, too few choices, no room to move! Pleeease, this is not a flame-bait. GNOME-lovers prefer to call it “usability” which is but a euphemism, after all
Slackware distro doesn’t officially include Gnome at all. Now, to me, all other distros are for those who don’t care to think too hard. Slackware makes you more intelligent.
Don’t be too hard on Ubuntu. I don’t care for it either but it’s been responsible for more people dumping Windows in favor of Linux than all others combined so it does have its value.
It seems that it’s not possible to select Italian language and Italy country… and it doesn’t recognize properly Italian keybord layout. It also has problem with the correct choose of time zone.
best regards
But Gnome is good. In fact I prefer it to KDE. I am now using Mandriva one 2010.2 Gnome and loving it!
c’mon guys don’t waste time with gnome/kde flaming.
E17 is the best, afterall
Seriously, can’t wait to install it later tonight

Why not use kernel 2.6.38 for the final version….?
Hi
There is a chance in order to have appeared delta package in the Madriva? It would be nice. Downloading the entire package when you upgrade IMO is nonsense…
It is great to see systemd adopted! The use of Clementine is also good news, it is a young project, but has many nice features.

I’ve always preferred KDE to Gnome. That’s one of the many reason’s I’ve stuck with Mandrake/Mandriva as a distro over the years. I’ve used it on many a desktop and laptop systems and would always recommend it!

sounds interesting…
im still not decided wheter i will go for mageia or mandriva (or both?!!!)
for now sticking with my automagically updated 2010.2
still not sure how this happened, is mandriva rolling release now?
No 2010.2 is just an incremental update to 2010.1
2011.0 will be a new release
just 2011, without .0

What’s the status of IPv6 integration in Mandriva?
It should work for the applications which support it. With networkmanager, it should “just work” as well.

I agree with Mr. Dodonov, one desktop should be managed by Mandriva team. Others to be managed by community. This hold good for other applications also. Mandriva community should decide on some core group of applications to be managed by Mandriva team. This core group should consist of applications so strongly built, nothing so go wrong while in use by end user. At present, I find a clutter of multiple applications for same use, user finds difficult to decide which to use.

I think I’ve reached the right place for information and news Aliqinp
I hope time I was with you
Best regards and traffic
Hm, it’s kinda worrisome to me:
I hope you guys aren’t taking the Ubuntu path: you have to start the Live CD and 20 minutes later when it the desktop finishes loading, you’re able to start the installation. Please please please make it possible to start the installation right away. Also, hopefully, hopefully you guys are keeping it so that you can install software off the disc, and don’t have to wait for the package(s) you want to download (as someone in the country stuck on dial-up, that was one of the biggest nuisances of Ubuntu; also, it would be nice if wvdial were included on the main disc, as that’s all distributors send you).
About GNOME vs KDE, come on: desktops are for n00bs. That said, I’d have to throw my support behind KDE, because Konqueror is about 100 times better than Nautilus (though I of course use Midnight Commander even if I am on a desktop).
