Mandriva Linux 2009 Spring RC1 ready for tests!

The RC1 release of Mandriva Linux 2009 Spring (code name pomerol) is now available. This RC1 version provides some updates on major desktop components of the distribution, including KDE 4.2.1, GNOME 2.25.92, Xfce 4.6, X.org server 1.6, OpenOffice.Org 3.0.1, qt 4.5.0.

This RC1 version proposes a first glance at 2009 Spring design, providing Free wallpapers. This version will allow you also to dump in a very easy way One GNOME hybrid iso on a USB key and then install Mandriva Linux on netbooks.

You will be able also to use from installation media some very useful tools:

  • HDT (Hardware Detection Tool): get a complete description of your hardware without booting a complete os
  • draksnapshot restore tools: restore your full system in an easy way from a date you will choose

and many other updates and fixes.

This release is available through

  • DVD edition (32 or 64 bits) with a traditional installer
  • dual CD (providing both 32 and 64 bits architectures) with a traditional installer

These editions are free versions, without proprietary applications. You will find also live CD One editions with proprietary drivers for KDE or GNOME environment.

Please help test this first release candidate and report bugs to Mandriva.

    We badly need an easy KDE based distro for netbooks.

    I hope that making it netbook friendly will be looked into.

    Wonderful! I have just downloaded and burned and booted the Live 2009.1! The detect and configure for wifi is the best yet. Amazingly easy, amazingly fast. So it all works straight out fo the box.

    My congratualtions to the MAndriva teams. I have used Mandriva since Mandrake 7.1, which was the first Linux I could install. I have used and tested many distrobutions, but I stay with Mandriva on all my home office computers.

    Thank you team. I look forward to installing the final 2009.1 soon.

    downloaded and burbed an iso of 2009.rc1 Unfortunately it fails to completely start on my acer 5002 laptop. Hopefully this will be remedied in the next or final release. Until now, Mandriva has run the best of all the distros on my machine with the best hardware detection . Mandriva is the ONLY one that runs flawlessly on my SIS video card.
    Look forward to the next version

    I have been a loyal user of Mindriva even back in the days of Mandrake 6. I am completely amazed at how easy it is now to have everything work upon the first boot up. Congrats!!!! and many thanks. The only issue that I am having is that “Splashy” the boot up program is causing some errors. I am currently trying to figure out how to fix this. I am hoping that if I just get the updates, all will be fixed. I have read in some forums, that simply removing Splashy will fix this issue. If the updates don’t do it, I will have to figure out how to do that. Its probably in the “Configure my computer” “Add and Remove software” section. I will update when I have this figured out.
