Mandriva Linux 2009 Spring Alpha 1 released
The first pre-release of Mandriva Linux 2009 Spring is now available. This alpha concentrates on updating to the major desktop components of the distribution, including KDE 4.2 Beta 2, GNOME 2.25.2, Xfce 4.6 Beta 2, X.org server 1.5, and kernel 2.6.28 rc8. It is also the first distribution to introduce the major new Tcl/Tk release, 8.6. The alpha is available only in the DVD Free edition with a traditional installer and no proprietary applications; future pre-releases will add the live CD One edition with proprietary drivers. Please help test this first pre-release and report bugs to Mandriva.

La première version de développement de Mandriva Linux 2009 Spring est maintenant disponible. Cette version alpha propose un ensemble important de mises à jour des principaux composants du poste de travail, incluant KDE 4.2 Beta, GNOME 2.25.2, Xfce 4.6, le serveur X.org 1.5 et le kernel 2.6.28 rc8. C’est aussi la première distribution à introduire la nouvelle version majeure Tcl/Tk 8.6. Cette version alpha est disponible uniquement sous forme de l’édition Free DVD (installeur traditionnel, 100% logiciels Open Source). Les prochaines versions de développement proposeront le live CD One. Vous pouvez contribuer et aider la communauté Mandriva en reportant les bugs éventuels.

Great News! this version of Mandrive 2009 spring has been very stable on my acer 5002 laptop. and best of all it supported my video (SIS) out of the box. All hardware except broadcom internal wifi has been supported. It even supported the pcmcia slot where my new wireless card resides, providing me with wireless G no problems!
You have made a believer out of me!!
I look forward with great delight to even more improvements!

Is this the final version of Kde 4? If so, I am upset.
Previous versions of Kde allowed me to customize menus for my 3 mouse buttons. This is a wonderful option I do not want to live without. I could find no way to do this in Kde 4.
So, bitterly disappointed I have re-installed Spring 2008. and , to make matters worse, I am continually told there is an update that I no longer want to install.
what kink of update takes away useful features?

Hi Shane,
This is an alpha, so, it means that there are a lot of bugs inside.
This release of KDE is a beta of KDE 4.2, so, it’s not a final one.
I advise you to report the bugs you encountered on http://qa.mandriva.com

Great news. Mandriva/Mandrake have always produced a fantastic distro I’m especially lLooking forward to this release as KDE 4.2 looks to be the first truly usable release of KDE 4
