Letter to Mandriva Community
We are pleased to announce you the launch, by January ‘09, of a world wide Mandriva Community Steering Committee whose main targets will be to:
- unify and leverage the Mandriva Community and Ecosystem, thus aligning joint efforts towards clear goals,
- provide a better visibility on products releases,
- and last but not least, establishing a key milestone on the road to success.
My proposal is to have one/two Community representative per country/cluster, with a few key people on the Mandriva side.
Anne Nicolas, Mandriva VP Engineering, will be the Mandriva committee member in charge of the effective launch.
We confirm that Mandriva Linux 2009 Spring will be released in April ‘09. Mandriva therefore announces the launch of Mandriva Enterprise Server 5 (MES 5) in Q1 ‘09.

J’ai le plaisir de vous annoncer le lancement d’ici janvier 2009 d’un comité de pilotage mondial de la communauté Mandriva. Ses principaux objectifs seront de :
- unifier et relancer la Communauté Mandriva et son écosystème, ce qui nous permettra ainsi de joindre nos efforts et de clarifier des objectifs communs,
- fournir une meilleure visibilité sur l’ensemble de la gamme des produits Mandriva,
- et finalement, et pas des moindres, franchir ainsi une étape clé vers le succès.
Je propose que chaque pays ou groupe représentatif au sein de la Communauté dispose d’un ou deux représentants au sein de ce comité, avec quelques représentants de la société Mandriva.
Anne Nicolas, VP Engineering de Mandriva, sera responsable de son lancement.
Je profite de ce message pour confirmer la sortie de Mandriva Linux 2009 Spring en avril prochain ; et annoncer le lancement de Mandriva Enterprise Server 5 (MES 5) lors du premier trimestre 2009.

Nice to read. Of course the goals mentioned do not say much about the means but I am happy to see something happening. I can’t speak for the German community because the German community does no know about this letter yet (I will care for a translation asap). I personnally like to read exactly what I wrote only yesterday in the Mandriva forum.
A pitiy, though, that this important document is again hidden somewhere in a blog and not on a more prominent place – there’s not even an announcement out about this launch – at least I haven’t seen anything on the usual “announcement places”.

Je persiste à penser qu’une communauté intégralement pilotée par Mandriva SA n’est sans doute pas le meilleur choix … mais laissons lui sa chance ; pour recourir à une langue que Mandriva affectionne, “wait and see”.

This announcement about a “Community Steering Committee” seems almost just as cryptic as your previous blog entry..
If I understand the idea about this, it doesn’t seem to actually appeal to other than the user community, there’s more longer standing and important issues within the cooker development/contributor community I don’t see this relating much to..
I’ll be patient a little while longer and give the benefit of doubt, but references to “country/cluster” seemed very vague and made me quite sceptic if what I read into it might be correct.
Please elaborate, this announcement didn’t really reaffirm me about anything..

- la lettre ouverte à Hervé Yahi par l’AUFML ;
- cette annonce.
Je suis ravi de cette réponse rapide de Mandriva à une demande de la communauté française et j’espère qu’elle sera largement soutenue par la communauté mondiale de Mandriva.
Cette collaboration doit être profitable pour tous. Et au delà de Mandriva, la communauté Linux et open source en bénéficiera.

I agree with wobo, this is great news, and an effort in what I believe to be in the correct direction. hopefully it will get more notice, and I do apperciate Anne’s having posted this note on the cooker mail list. I would also like to see it posted to the “expert” as well as “newbie” community lists…

bonjour,
Je trouve (personnellement) que c’est une excellente idée. Je pense que la communauté éducative verra également cela d’un bon oeil. Toute fois j’attends de voir la mise en place réelle car malheureusement dans l’éducation nous avons mangé (et mange encore) du pain noir. Combien de promesse pas tenu (promesse d’aide à eole Dijon, promesse d’aide à slaes non tenu et jamais mandriva n’a tenté de récupéré cette base pourtant prometteuse, une version mdv-edu qui depuis plus d’un an végète etc…).
Bref si les actes suivent les annonces alors mandriva peut retrouver une grande communauté, dans le cas contraire je crois que ces propos feront office d’épitaphe.
Alors bonne année et bon courage à toutes les personnes qui soutiennent et font avancés ce fabuleux projet communautaire.

My hopes are now up that Mandriva is on the right road. How will the Steering Committee be selected? I would be willing to to provide constructive advice as a former Mandrake Crashtester and a reasonably competent Mandrake/Mandriva user since 2000.

I think Ubunto is mere hype,Mandriva is the best distro.If one is to name another it will be Simply Mepis.In every front these two two can do everything exceedingly well.Even these two can outweight xp and mac osx.

This is good news.
I don’t think that we have a representation here in the UK.
I have been very active in promoting Mandriva and personnally installing it on many users machines.
This is perhaps a good opportunity to see something officially set up here in the UK.

L’Association des Utilisateurs Francophones de Mandriva Linux est très heureuse de cette nouvelle, qu’elle avait appelée de ses voeux en décembre 2008. Je pense qu’il s’agit d’une réelle opportunité pour Mandriva de tirer la quintessence de nos talentueux contributeurs, toutes nationalités confondues et qu’il s’agit de l’un des moyens d’extirper définitivement Mandriva des difficultés. Nous sommes sur la bonne voie.
