Bonjour johnkaffee,

Have tried both RC1 and RC2, and am sure that final will be smoother than both. Unfortunately I see the release information in Office. Can’t wait to get back home and download the torrent.
I fell in love with Mandriva 2008.1 and have helped many friends install and use it. Surely 2009 is going to be another great release that will turn all my Linux aware friends to Mandriva.

Just installed the Free version with KDE 4.1 desktop and it works great. I tried other distribution before but they didn’t do their job with the new revolutionary desktop very well. I think Mandriva 2009 is the first one where it works as it should. Now I could only hope Mandriva would make an Oxygen style/theme for other parts of the system as Oxygen looks a lot better then the default style. Keep up the great work!

The changes mentioned in release notes are awesome. Certainly one of the best Linux distros. I still feel however, Mandriva should merge the free and One distros or at least make Mandriva One in DVD flavor.
October 10th, 2008 at 11:34 am
With updated FOSS, surely it will rock the Linux space.

Torrent is not the best distribution method for “Subscribers”, mine has been running now for 24 hrs(currently at 67% complete
) …. As for the product, well I have been using Mandrake/Mandriva since Mandrake v6.0, and fell in love with it immediately after a couple of problematic experiences with what was then RHv4, and SuSE …. SuSE especially was a nightmare, and I swore never to go back.
Have used 2009 Alpha1, Beta1, RC1 & RC2, with only minor issues. Installation is still easy for the “newbie”, WiFi support is much improved, KDE4 – nice(smoother icons, more stylish presentation, etc.), also does appear to be – to my view at least – a ‘tad’ more stable/reliable.
Just wish the distro to paid subscribers was faster – i.e. NOT torrent based…. torrents are such a pain in the a**!!!

October 11th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Simply the best and more powerfull Linux distro available. The human distribution Ubuntu, is not as easy to configure, manage, install, as Mandriva, and is not as complete too. Software availability in the most of cases is better, beacuse you can easy find .RPM and .sh files compatible with many other distros and exclusively with Mandriva; you’ll never be worried about software. DELL should think about introduce Mandriva in parallel with Ubuntu.

Hop, on répare ça, on recommence, pareil ça replante.

I was highly enthousiactic when I received from Mandriva the e-mail announcing the release of 2009.0…
Unbelievable, it works great! Even more than great, I cannot leave my computer and still want to enjoy this incredibly great version…
I have a second netbook, namely Acer Aspire One… With LXDE package, it works like a normal high-capacity notebook really, even without it… But you will realise what I tell you once you download and install lxde rpm package…
Thank you and congratulations Mandriva, I never complained for almost 7 years using you…
All the best,
Cengizhan

Hola Santanna,
Please check your download:
$ md5sum your-file.iso
And compare it with the md5sum provided by Mandriva (named “*.iso.md5″)
If the md5sum of your ISO is not the same than the one provided by Mandriva, your file is corrupted and you need to download it again.

Thanks heaps for this release. This release was the only one that recognised all of my hardware and its drivers. It was so annoying to be with UBuntu. I really do not know how to thank you.
October 20th, 2008 at 11:16 am
I am also definitely going to have Mandreiva Linux as my stand alone operating system. It is so cool and easy to use, even far easeier than Ubuntu. Mandriva Linux is the best.
October 20th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
I had to install it now the 3th time Mandriva 2009, most software is not working, always error messeges, this distro is not good at all.
I have the stable release and just not good to use at all.
Long live Ubuntu, gOS and ubuntu Studio and Gnome, all the distros I trie it brought me back to gOS and other ubuntu based distros, and they are the only one who work with my hardware out of the box, largest and best repositoris, easiest to use, all the software works on it out of the box, so it is a waste of time to mess around with Mandriva.
Kde is the worsest desktop, gnome is much more easy to configure and is the stablest.
All you ubuntu bashers should stop, it is horrible this distro bashings and linux politics one against the other, you use what you like, and we use what works.

Hi Natalie,
You can use both KDE and/or GNOME on Mandriva Linux.
You just need to choose between KDE or GNOME during the installation process.
You can also download or Mandriva One as “One KDE” or “One GNOME”.

I am a Dreamlinux and Arch user, but have to say that after distrotesting Mandriva, I am very impressed. This release, in my opinion, puts Ubuntu to shame. I will most definitely be recommending Mandriva for new linux users. It is intuitive , both install and setup, and leaves a feeling of stabiltiy and robustness. Here is my distro test on LxH:

2008 and 2008 Spring were more stable, Mandriva 2009 has a lot of glitches, certain video types don’t play, some programs like Kaffeine have no icons just a question mark, they replaced good programs with bad ones. The package list is not as complete as previous versions.
Many fundamental mistakes that become very annoying for the regular user.
Looks just wont do it for me.
I personally was expecting more, looks like they hurried up too much and came out with some full-of-bugs distro.
Damien Reply:

Hi Nirepsa,
Those bugs are KDE bugs, not Mandriva bugs.
Please upgrade your 2009, KDE has been updated and it’s now KDE 4.1.3 with a lot of improvements.
