Mandriva Linux 2009 RC1 is available
Mandriva Linux 2009 Release Candidate 1 (code name camelopard) is available on public mirrors now (or will be in the coming hours).
Be careful: this is still a development product, it should not be used in a production environment.
You will find more informations about this release on the wiki. The main new features of RC1 (compared to Beta2) are:
- automatic repository configuration and mirror selection in package management tools (powered by aria2);
- ath5k replaces madwifi for Atheros wireless cards;
- new graphical theme (backgrounds, screensavers);
- based on kernel 2.6.27 (rc5 ATM);
- KDE 4.1.1;
- KDE 3.5.10 (not on ISO);
- GNOME 2.23.91 (ie 2.24.0 Beta 2);
- new design for installer (not complete yet);
- improved system-config-printer;
- improved Ia Ora theme for KDE4 (not complete yet);
- and many others features and bugs fixes.
All tests are welcome to improve coming releases, especially about list above.

Mandriva Linux 2009 Release Candidate 1 (nom de code camelopard) est disponible sur les miroirs publics dès maintenant (ou dans les heures qui viennent).
Attention: il s’agit encore d’une version de développement et elle ne doit pas être utilisée dans un environnement de production.
Vous trouverez plus d’informations à propos de cette version sur le wiki. Les principales nouveautés de la RC1 (depuis la Beta 2) sont :
- la configuration automatique des sources de packages et la sélection automatique des miroirs pour le téléchargement des paquetages ;
- le driver ath5k remplace madwiki pour les cartes wifi Atheros ;
- un nouvel habillage graphique (fonds d’écran, économiseurs d’écran) ;
- basé sur le kernel 2.6.27 (rc5 actuellement) ;
- KDE 4.1.1 ;
- KDE 3.5.10 (non présent sur les ISO) ;
- GNOME 2.23.91 (2.24.0 Beta 2) ;
- un nouveau design de l’installeur (non finalisé) ;
- un system-config-printer amélioré ;
- l’amélioration du thème Ia Ora pour KDE4 (non finalisé) ;
- et bien d’autres surprises et corrections de bugs.
Tous les tests sont les bienvenus pour améliorer la prochaine version, particulièrement concernant les points cités plus haut.

Sorry havent got a bugzilla account…
have you tested this on eee 901 yet? Used unetbootin to get RC1 onto a USB thumb drive, but RC1 stops as it cannot find the init scripts.
Would be great to have this fixed before RC2 is out.

les cd audio ne sont pas reconnus par kscd, ni par Amarok, ni par Kaffeine. mais malgré cela, VLC reconnait tout cd audio.
A signaler que dans “Périphériques branchés recemment” le cd audio uniquement n’est jamais reconnu.
A noter que K3b reconnait le cd audio.

Hi,
Tried out 2009 rc1 on a dual opteron, 2Gb, uatadisk, dual screens, nvidia gfx, etc etc. Seems to work fine until you configure the gfx card to use both monitors, all of a sudden the themes aren’t usable etc etc. same goes for mandriva 2008 powerpack. Isn’t it time to fix this kind of stuff, or am I just doing something wrong ?

When I installed Mandriva One 2008 *everything* felt right. It looked good, it was intuitive and it just worked.
I am very disappointed with 2009 RC1. I am sorry to say the artwork seems poor while the interface seems clumsy and counter-intuitive. I am so unimpressed that I will be not be using this version any further. I am hoping for better things to come.

Interesting version, I tested it on a Thinkpad T20 and old small of 650mhz and 256 of RAM and a HDD with 4GB. The most interesting thing was the automatic elimination of unused locales and hardware drivers not present on the laptop.
Even I am a GNOME user the KDE 4 interface is clean, and has been tuned up in KDE 3.5 style to not generates traumathic transicion. The best edition ever since Mandrake 10.2. Regards

The volume is very low in the RC1 and there is no availability of refresh window option on right click on desktop which users usually do.
Moreover I coudn’t get the konsole in the KDeveloper for C/C++…….!!!
