The sixth pre-release of Mandriva Linux 2008 Spring is here. This pre-release includes support for easy synchronization of Windows Mobile 5+, Blackberry and Nokia devices, the Codeina multimedia codec installation system, support for Radeon HD 3xxx series graphics cards, more improvements to the Mandriva software installation tools, the finalized 2008 Spring theme, a new metapackage for easily installing a complete LAMP setup, and available KDE 4.0.2. Many problems. Only installed it on my Thinkpad T61 but on startup the cpu fan kicked into high gear and drained my battery from 50 percent to 25 % in just minutes (even after I changed the powersave option so the machine was at only 800mhz vs. it’s full 2000mhz).
Also the driver for the ipwl3945 wireless is not included in RC2 Free (the 4.3 gigabyte x86_64 version). Also sound not detected – failed to initialize.
Love the fact that the bootloader detects all other systems on my harddrive!!!!
RC1 – everything worked. Don’t know what you did, but maybe you want to change it back? Will try the one version and see how that does. In summery: Massive power use (fan goes and goes), no driver for the wifi and no sound. I’m sure all this (except the power drain) could be worked through but this should all work out of the box.
Regarding my previous comments:
I tried a reinstall, (instead of an upgrade) and put the /home directory on the same partition as the system files and everything appears to be working just fine. Still need to install that ipw3945 driver, but I can hardly wait for the 2008.1 powerpack.
RC1 seemed to work ok….some sound card issues……..rc2 wouldn’t even install………some installer issues……fix em up and I’m in.

i am from india and a new user of linux o/s. i installed mandriva spring 2008 on my notebook acer 4715Z. i found the driver of wi-fi adaptor (Atheros AR5007EG) but i don’t know how to install it. is there anybody who can help me? my e mail id is peeyoosh_dutt@rediffmail.com
